Abortion up to birth
Victoria’s abortion laws allows abortions up until birth.
At no stage during the entire 9 months of pregnancy is the child afforded any human rights or protections whatsoever.
Late-term abortions
In Victoria 300-400 late-term abortions occur every single year.
Around half of these are performed on the basis of “psychosocial” reasons, on perfectly healthy babies with no congenital abnormalities.
Babies born alive
In the cases where a late-term abortion fails and the baby is accidentally born alive, Victoria’s abortion laws do not provide any requirement of comfort, medical care or resuscitation for those babies.
They may be left to die.
Abortion on demand
Up to 24 weeks, Victoria’s abortion laws allows abortion on demand.
This means you can request to terminate your child for any reason (including sex-selection), with no restrictions, review or counselling.
No pain-relief
The ongoing science of exactly which week a child in the womb is able to feel pain is still developing.
But Victoria’s abortion laws show no compassion for the child at any stage, providing no anaesthetic even for late-term babies that can definitely feel pain.
No humanity
Victoria’s abortion laws do not provide any protection for a child in the womb who is seriously injured or killed during an assault on the pregnant mother.
Even the humanity of unborn children who are wanted, is not legally acknowledged in Victoria.
After 24 weeks
2 doctors are required to authorise an abortion after 24 weeks, but there is no oversight of this decision.
In fact, the private abortionist who would be getting paid for the abortion can be one of the doctors.
Partial-birth abortions
Victoria’s abortion laws allow for partial-birth abortions.
This is a particularly brutal medical procedure where the living intact baby is first vaginally delivered except for their head, and then killed before being completely removed from the birth canal.
Illegal to offer help
It is illegal in Victoria for people to quietly pray, peacefully protest or communicate anything about abortion within 150 metres of abortion clinics.
Within these zones, it is even illegal to offer help and support to women facing a crisis pregnancy.
Forced Involvement
In Victoria, doctors are forced by law to be complicit in abortions.
If they object to performing or authorising an abortion out of care for the baby, they must refer to another doctor who will not object.
Sex-selection abortions
Victoria’s abortion laws allow for sex-selection abortions.
This is where the child is terminated simply because of their gender. Most often because they are a girl. In Victoria, sex-selection is known to occur and our abortion laws do nothing to protect girls from it.
Abortion vs Adoption
The waiting list to adopt a child in Victoria is huge. Each year the number of families that want to adopt, vastly outstrips the number of children who require families.
Sadly, the thousands of unborn children who are aborted could have been welcomed into the loving homes of Victorian parents waiting and ready to adopt.

What exactly is ‘March for the babies’ ?
On October 10, 2008, the Victorian Parliament passed the Abortion Law Reform Act, one of the most extreme abortion laws in the world. This law eliminated all legal protection for Victorian children until the moment of birth.
In remembrance of this shameful day, we gather to march for the babies who never see the light of day in Victoria. Our goal is to spread the message that EVERY LIFE MATTERS.

When is the next March? & What can I do in the meantime?
The next March for the Babies will be on October 11th, 2025! It will be our 16th Annual march and we would love you to make it. In the meantime, we encourage you to get involved as much as you can by becoming a volunteer. The event may only run once a year but protecting the lives of the unborn is an everyday cause worth fighting for.
